Arsenal claimed a 5-2 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday evening, lifted by another impressive attacking display.

The opening 36 minutes were reminiscent of last season’s 6-0 hammering as Arsenal players each fought to get onto the scoresheet up until Kai Havertz slid home the fourth.

However, on this occasion, West Ham had some bite, fighting back with two goals before Bukayo Saka crushed any doubts with a first-half stoppage time penalty.

Aside from the penalty, Saka was typically brilliant, setting up two goals and winning the first penalty.

There are few superlatives left to describe how good Saka is, he might just be the best player in the Premier League this season.

Unfortunately, the 'might' is due to Mohammed Salah who has got Liverpool racing away in the lead.

Jorginho stepped into midfield for the second straight league game and put in an accomplished display to help the Gunners control the game.

Arsenal look a stronger side when they have a player who can dictate the tempo of the game. It’s something the Arsenal squad typically lacks outside of Jorginho, Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The former is battling age, the skipper was sorely missed during his spell on the sidelines, and the latter likely doesn’t regain a regular starting spot.

A big move is unlikely in January and the summer is a long way away, but a player who can dictate like Jorginho has to be on the shopping list.

Saturday’s game took the Gunners up to second in the league due to another slip-up from Manchester City. But once again, Liverpool kept the gap with another win.

This week also saw Arsenal draw Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup, 48 hours before the sides were due to meet at the Emirates Stadium in the league.

It will be a difficult game that falls right in the thick of the January fixtures and the last thing they need to add to the schedule.

Arsenal travel to Fulham on Sunday (2pm), having only taken a single point off the Cottagers last season.

The away trip especially was one of the Gunners’ hardest games and one of the few times Arsenal were outplayed the whole campaign, so it will not be an easy fixture.
