Wingate & Finchley aiming to go further than they ever have before in the FA Cup this season by winning in the next round.
The Blues have only ever reached the third qualifying round of the prestigious cup competition but manager Marc Weatherstone is determined to go one step further.
They will travel away to Isthmian Premier Division rivals Corinthian Casuals on Saturday as they look to break a record by progressing into the fourth qualifying round tie.
The Casuals sealed a 3-0 win over Leatherhead in the second qualifying round replay after a 0-0 draw in the original tie.
“The FA Cup is so important for non league teams to generate prize money and Wingate & Finchley have never got past the third qualifying round, so that will be our biggest motivation,” Weatherstone said.
“Corinthians have had some great results since we played them at home, so I'm expecting a tough game.”
Weatherstone and his side were also due to travel to Hayes Lane to take on Cray Wanderers in the league last night (Wednesday) on the back of letting a two goal lead slip away to Bognor Regis Town as they drew 2-2 on Saturday.
Bilal Sayoud and an own goal from Joe Dandy gave the Blues the dream start but the hosts pulled it back in the second-haf thanks to Harvey Whyte and Nathan Odokonyero.
“It was frustrating not to hold on to a two goal lead, but considering we have never got anything from Bognor away, I’ll take a point.
“The boys worked so hard to defend for large parts of the second half and we just fell short in the last minute.”
Wingate have had a mixed start to the Isthmian Premier League season as they've picked up two wins, two draws, and three defeats in the opening seven games which sees them sit 15th in the table.
The entire league is wide open with teams picking up results against everyone with the table yet to take real shape.
