The Ukip candidate for Hornsey and Wood Green has called for a war against female genital mutiliation and the restoration of the death penalty while upholding Christian values and the freedom of speech.
Wood Green resident Ruth Price, who has worked with adults who have learning difficulties for 17 years, is also campaigning to ensure a “true Brexit”.
Mrs Price, who has been married for 28 years, said “family values are very important” to her and that she longs “to be able to improve the lives of people” she works with.
“Unlike Theresa May, I have constantly campaigned to leave the European Union and restore sovereignty to our country,” she said, adding that Labour candidate Catherine West as well as the Lib Dawn Barnes and the Green Party are “all in favour” of Britain remaining in the EU.
She added: “I would fight to ensure a true Brexit, opposing any punitive payments imposed by a bullying EU, and insist that our territorial waters are fully restored.
“I believe that any Brexit deal should end free movement so that we can take back control of our borders.”
She also said that – “as a woman” – she is particularly opposted to female genital multilation and the “practice of allowing little girls to be killed in the womb just because their parents would rather have a boy”.
Mrs Price believes money currently paid into the EU should be diverted to the NHS, while also “strongly” opposing health tourism.
She added: “I do not believe that our spending for overseas aid should be ring-fenced and that as a percentage of our GDP I would wish for it to be reduced. I believe our priorities should be to the poor and needy in our own country.”
The fight to “keep freedom of speech alive”, she said, is something she would personally undertake – alongside upholding “our Christian heritage”.
“I believe that the Government has lost touch with the people and I would want to see power being given to the people and that is why I support the introduction of a system of direct democracy both at local government level and national government level,” she said.
The death of Moors murderer Ian Brady on Monday also inspired Mrs Price to stress that she supports “the restoration of the death penalty for those found guilty of murder”.
She added: [Brady’s death] is a reminder to us of the foolishness and dreadful waste of keeping in prison those guilty of heinous crimes.”
She concluded: “A vote for UKIP is a vote for true democracy – a vote for the people – and a vote for an exciting future.”
The election will be held on June 8.
In 2015, Ukip won 1,271 votes in Hornsey and Wood Green.
