A student who arrived in the UK just two years ago speaking very little English has been praised for her A-level success.
Gabriela Lesniewska came to the UK to study for A levels at Fine Arts College, in Belsize Park.
Her father, Jaroslaw, had to interpret for her during her interview with the Principal, Candida Cave.
Now Gabi has achieved four A grades at A-level in History of Art, Fine Art, Graphics and Photography and she has also earned a B in her Extended Project Qualification, which she wrote on the photography pioneer, Julia Margaret Cameron.
Gabi said: “I’m very pleased, especially with my grade in History of Art because when I came to the UK I couldn’t speak English and now I have these good grades.’
Gabi has won a place at London College of Communications, part of the University of the Arts London, to study a BA in Illustration and Visual Media.
This year 21.7 per cent of grades at the college were A* to A, while A* to B grades accounted for 61.8 per cent.
A* to E grades accounted for 99.1 per cent of grades.
