Santa Claus got behind the Lord Mayor of Westminster's call to do a bit of “local” shopping this Christmas.
Father Christmas was greeted by Cllr Robert Rigby as he lit up the traditional High Street Christmas tree in St John's Wood.
“The high street is looking great,” Cllr Rigby told Santa. “The number of independent shops gives St John’s Wood High Street a real community feel.”

The pair called in on some of the shops to meet the independent traders contributing to the seasonal festive mood — with their cash tills jingling.
The mayor’s ‘Big Christmas Wish’ to Santa was to fend off chain stores trying to muscle in on local high streets like St John’s Wood.
“It’s heartening to see so many people come here at Christmas,” he added.
Santa promised to do what he can to keep the festivities ‘local’ this Yuletide.
