Young readers at a Crouch End school have an exciting new place to enjoy books after a major makeover of their library.
Parents and children at Rokesly Juniors came together to raise more than £4,000 to give the library a fresh new look for the new term.
Old shelving and seating were stripped out and replaced with an exciting modern design, featuring a 'nook' where youngsters can sit and read.
Volunteer carpenters helped craft the new look library, while an army of parents were on hand to decorate the walls and new shelving and upcycle old furniture.
And it’s not just a lick of paint. Jenny Baker, an arty parent, created a fun mural featuring favourite characters from well-loved books.
The project, organised by Rokesly PSA, also involved a book drive in the community, with parents donating new and used books to widen the library stock.
Much of the cost was funded by the hard work of the children, who participated in a sponsored readathon last year, with donations from parents and the community.
Rebecca Badgett, one of the parents on the design team, said they wanted to create somewhere that would encourage a love of reading among the children.
“We thought it was important to give the kids somewhere fun and relaxing where they can enjoy reading,” she said.
“The old library was fine, but now it looks so much brighter and better, and more comfortable, and the kids are absolutely thrilled.”
