A second hand clothes sale where only 'top notch' items are sold has raised £5,000 for biodiversity projects.

Growing Green, a rewilding not-for-profit organisation, held the sale in St Albans Road, Parliament Hill, on November 16.

Only high quality donations were accepted, which are then sold alongside home-made cakes, hot drinks and mulled wine.

Claudia Kretzchmar, who co-founded the project with Jeska Harrington Gould two years ago, said: "The second hand clothes sale has become a local favourite.

"We get wonderful clothes donated by friends and supporters, only top-notch items will make it onto the racks.

"We spend over a week to sort, steam, clean, price and hang the clothes. We also have wonderful home-made cakes on offer, plus hot drinks and some mulled wine.

"Not only do our guests get a chance to get great clothes at good prices, but they also shop more sustainably and help raise money for our biodiversity projects."

The money will be used to plant wildlife hedges, trees and orchards, sow wildflower meadows and dig ponds in local state schools, create habitats and highways for hedgehogs and monitor this endangered species.

She said the cash will also help reconnect teens to nature to support their mental health and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
