A national DIY chain staged a Halloween-themed event to open its latest shop.

Leyland invited the public to its 35th London store, which is in Haverstock Hill, to enjoy family fun, competitions, and treats.

Mayor of Camden Cllr Samata Khatoon, cut the ribbon at the shop's official opening on October 30.

The new Belsize Park branch has created eight jobs and is set to provide convenience for tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts.

Leyland CEO Martin Hastings said: "We are delighted to officially open our Belsize Park store.

"We like to create a buzz when we open in a new location, and it was fantastic to see so many people having fun and finding out what we have to offer the area."

The shop offers a wide range of products and is the first Leyland store to sell Benjamin Moore paint.

However, despite the excitement, there were concerns about its impact on nearby independent shop Belsize Hardware.

Campaigners had previously opposed the chain's move into the former Chesneys fireplace shop.

They feared the "tacky and vulgar" branding would be out of keeping with the area and would threaten the survival of Belsize Hardware.

Leyland Belsize Park is open from 6.30am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
