Housekeeper Debs Smith cleaned up with an ‘Unsung Hero’ award at this year’s national Third Sector finals for her work keeping a children’s hospice clean and safe.

Debs is “so much more than a housekeeping manager” at Noah’s Ark Children's Hospice in High Barnet.

She’s been an integral part since she joined in 2022 with her calming presence, running her team, which is responsible for the cleanliness, infection control and children’s safety.

“Noah’s Ark is such a great place to work,” she said. “It’s such an honour to be part of this charity to help children and their families.”

Debs is also on the frontline with families, some “going through unimaginable stress” which the hospice says takes incredible emotional strength and kindness.

Debs’ care and attention “shines through in everything that she does”, the judges said. Sometimes, they added, small acts of kindness “can have the biggest difference to people’s lives”.
