The public is being urged to have its say on film composer Hans Zimmer's plans to refurbish an iconic recording studio to provide a creative space “fit for the 21st Century”.

Last year, it was revealed that the Oscar winner - known for his work on The Lion King and Gladiator - was one of four people to have bought the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios in Delaware Road, which had been listed for sale at £10.5 million.

Discussions over the studios' future are still underway, but plans indicate the venue will retain much of the building’s classic look, while “setting new benchmarks for excellence in British film and music post-production”.

The partnership, which also includes Working Title film studio chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Hans Zimmer’s long-time business partner Stefan Kofsky, unveiled plans for the site ahead of an expected planning application to Westminster City Council.

Members of the public are being invited to have their say on the proposals.

The partners said they have already held initial conversations with immediate neighbours and understand the priorities for the site.

They added: “We want to work with local organisations to ensure our project creates new opportunities for the next generation in Maida Vale.

“As part of our vision for the site, we would like to promote education and heritage in the local area. We are especially keen to hear how we can work with local partners/groups to help benefit the community in Maida Vale.”

Planned changes include creating new planting and seating areas outside the studios, and replacing the corrugated-metal roof.

Inside the building, three “state-of-the-art” music studios will be created, alongside composer suites and music rooms.

The plans commit to a “retrofit-first” approach to the development, ensuring that much of its existing fabric is retained to minimise carbon emissions from demolition.

An online consultation has opened up to gain the thoughts of the public before October 11: https://concilioconnects.typeform.com/to/A5ED6DIt?typeform-source=futureofmaidavalestudios.co.uk

Likewise two public exhibitions will be held at the Amadeus Centre on Shirland Road, Maida Vale, on October 1 between 2.30pm and 6.45pm and October 2 between 3pm and 7pm.
