Channing has been awarded the Green Flag Award with Distinction for the second year in a row.
Last year, we declared a Climate Emergency at the School, recognising the urgent threat of climate change.
Our students and staff are committed to making a positive difference, heeding the warnings of Sir David Attenborough, “We’re at a tipping point… If we have not taken dramatic action within the next decade, we could face irreversible damage.”
As Channing headmistress Mrs Lindsey Hughes noted “Declaring a Climate Emergency reflects both our recognition of human-driven climate change and our commitment to putting environmental issues high on the agenda across the school.”
A big congratulations to all the eco reps, members of staff, and our sustainability officers, Bella and Olivia.
The feedback from the awarding body could not have been more positive: “The motto ‘Channing: Growing Greener, Braver, and More Aware’ has been kept from last year, and why change a good thing? Your application has been an absolute joy to assess… there are so many highlights, and we will definitely share some of your ideas as examples of best practice.
"Thank you so much for all your hard work, and congratulations on achieving a Green Flag with Distinction; you have more than earned it.”
We celebrate this success while remaining aware that it is part of an ongoing process, and there is still much more we can do together at Channing.
