Kentish Town South by-election result: Labour holds seat

Voters headed to the polls on Thursday (September 5) to choose their next representative in Kentish Town South.

The by-election was triggered after Camden Council's former leader Georgia Gould became MP for Queen's Park & Maida Vale in the general election on July 4

Labour candidate Joseph Ball was named the winner at a count today (Friday), with 674 votes.

He was followed by Alice Brown who received 327 votes for the Green Party.

Third was independent candidate Muhammad Abu Naser with 289 votes.

Shajib Ziffer, of the Local Conservatives, received 77 votes, while the Liberal Democrats' Tara Copeland came fifth with 72.

The turnout in Kentish Town was 17.9%, with a postal vote turnout of 36%.

Cllr Ball said he was "thrilled" to win but added: "now the hard work really starts".

He added: "We worked really hard over the last few weeks so I'm chuffed to be elected on our platform of investing in new and existing housing, making Kentish Town South more sustainable, working with Transport for London to reopen Kentish Town Station and help residents with the cost of living.

"I bring a lot of energy, enthusiasm and ideas. We have to be positive and tackle the issues head on."

Alice Brown said the Green Party "got a good showing".

"We need more green policies," she added.

"We need Camden to be greener than it is, that's why I joined the Green Party."
