Hampstead and Highgate Conservatives have elected a new chairman after the resignation of former parliamentary candidate Don Williams.

The local party accepted Williams’ resignation at a meeting of its executive held yesterday evening (August 20).

The former Camden councillor most recently ran against Tulip Siddiq MP in the new Hampstead and Highgate constituency in July's general election.

A spokesperson for the local party said that he had decided to step down so that he could concentrate on his “business and personal life”.

Valeriy Votinov has been elected as chairman, having previously worked at Conservative Campaign Headquarters as a campaign manager.

His profile on the party’s website states that he is “looking forward to building a team to oust Labour from running Camden” at the next set of local elections.
