Hampstead people were left bemused after a giraffe-like figure appeared at the top of a historic clocktower.
The mysterious object appeared at the top of the Grade II-listed building in Heath Street last week.
One local – Judy Woodward – said that the figure looked like a giraffe was peering out from the 150-year-old clocktower towards Hampstead Tube station.
After noticing the statue, she contacted the council, over fears that somebody could be hurt if a gust of wind blew it into the street below.
The appearance of the giraffe comes amid plans to restore the roof of the clocktower, complete with flag staff and weather vane.
It is not clear if the statue was related to these works, but Camden Council has been approached for more information.
The Ham and High understands that the figure is no longer on top of the clocktower, having been removed at the end of last week.
