Camden's free annual street party returns next month with roads taken over by live music, art and activities.
Back for its fourth year, Camden Inspire is a celebration of the borough's creative talent who will come together on Saturday September 7th to deliver a day of community entertainment.
As with previous years, Buck Street and Stucley Place will be cleared of traffic to make way for music, spoken word, street art, and workshops.
The council is currently running a public consultation on a trial pedestrianisation of Camden High Street and organisers say the festival is "exactly the sort of activity that's made possible when roads and public spaces become open for the community".
Camden music venues Roundhouse, Green Note, Fiddlers Elbow and Map Studio Cafe have curated a genre-spanning music line-up that takes in jazz, electronica, R&B, folk and more.
There will be tunes from Camden-based Dig It Soundsystem, headliner Rebecca Vasmant, a DJ bringing a fresh new twist to dance music with her love of jazz, West-African drum rhythms and cutting edge techno from Krin, and local R&B soul singer Milli Rose Rubin.
Free or subsidised workshops will include Brazilian drumming with Centro Cultural Senzala, circus skills from the Roundhouse, clay pottery with Mayhap Studio, and more from the Working Men's College, Creative Health Camden, The Badge Cafe, London School of Mosaic, and The Place.
Delicious food and drink come courtesy of 3 Locks Beer, Mildreds, Pinky, Philly Philly Steak and Dumpling Pimps to name a few.
The street artists from Camden Open Air Gallery will be working live on a new public art collection on Buck Street, and the spoken word stage Speaker Corner will feature a rosta of poets including Glastonbury performer and mental-health advocate Rohan Samuel, British-Moroccan writer Nayma Chamchoun, and spoken word activist Sami Rhymes.
Organisers say Camden Inspire will have something for all tastes at an event that showcases the area's community and creativity and is set to be "the liveliest yet".
Simon Pitkeathley, CEO of Camden Town Unlimited said: “We are so happy to be bringing Camden Inspire back to Buck Street and Stucley Place. This festival is a proud representation of the unique and creative spirit that has always thrived in Camden. Working with such brilliant community partners and local organisations on this event really is what makes it so special. We hope to welcome more people than ever before to enjoy Camden Inspire this year."
Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, said: “Culture is in our DNA and Camden Inspire is a brilliant example of London’s creative community at its best. It brings together music, arts and crafts in a fantastic free street festival for all tastes. It’s great to see events such as this one thriving year after year, bringing Londoners and tourists to the area to enjoy all there is on offer."
Camden Inspire runs from 12-10pm on September 7 in Buck Street and Stucley Place, NW1.
