The reopening date has been set for one of Waitrose's most distinctive supermarkets, which has been closed for six weeks.

The Waitrose John Barnes shop in Finchley Road closed from July 7 for major refurbishment.

The supermarket has now confirmed that it will welcome customers once again from August 21.

At the time of the closure, Waitrose teased that it would have a fresh new look and “exciting new features” such as an improved bakery, deli counter and food-to-go options.

Doughnuts

Crosstown Doughnuts, a bakery with 11 shops and stalls across London since being founded in 2014, has also confirmed that it will make its first venture into supermarkets by launching a stall at the John Barnes shop.

The doughnuts will be available to purchase individual for £4 or in a mix & match three-pack box for £12 in a branded unit in the new bakery, as well as in a display unit in the food to go area of the store.

Crosstown CEO Howard Ebison said: “We've been serving up fresh dough across London and other areas of the UK since 2014 through our retail network and delivery services, taken them to international festivals in the Middle East and now we're launching them in our first supermarket partnership, at Waitrose John Barnes.

“It made perfect sense to work with Waitrose who share our vision for extraordinary food made consciously and responsibly.”

The former John Barnes department store reopened as 'Waitrose John Barnes' in 1981.

A Waitrose spokesperson said: "We're giving our John Barnes shop a fresh new look and installing exciting new features. We are confident it will be worth the wait, and in the meantime our partners at nearby branches are ready to welcome customers.

“They'll also fulfil online orders, so any customer using Waitrose.com, Uber Eats or Deliveroo won't notice any changes."
