Fans of French-style crêpes will be delighted to hear that a Hampstead food-lovers' landmark will soon be opening a new takeaway.

High street pancake stand La Crêperie de Hampstead will be opening the shop in West End Lane, West Hampstead in a few weeks' time.

Founded in 1977 by chef Edward De Mesquita, the stall has been serving crêpes and galettes outside the King William IV pub in Hampstead High Street since 1980.

Known for its long queues, the crêpe stall is expanding to a bricks and mortar premises and says it hopes it will be ready soon.

A spokesperson said: "We are just finalising the last few pieces and hope to open in a few weeks.

"It will be the same menu, the same principles, the same recipes, same cooking methods, all pioneered by Edward. We are very excited.

"West Hampstead will be exactly the same, hopefully with the same queues there as well."

The crêpe stand's trailer was replaced by a food stand two years ago and over the years customers have included celebrities including singer Harry Styles.

The spokesperson said its most popular flavours vary according to the season, with current favourite being strawberries and chocolate.

"When it's cold outside it might be cheese-based, it's hard to predict," they added.
