A cinema manager raised hundreds of pounds for charity when he sold a hoard of film posters.

When David Monsell, who runs the Art House cinema in Crouch End, found he had a stock of leftover posters, he left them in the venue's cafe next to a collection box for homelessness charity Shelter.

Included were posters for Holocaust drama Zone of Interest, sports biopic Iron Claw, re-released Star Wars films and old Marvel films.

Mr Monsell said: "It went really well. It was nice seeing people coming into the cafe and rummaging through them all, chatting enthusiastically among themselves about what they were finding.

"It prevents waste and there are nice items that collectors find desirable so it felt like a waste to just throw them in the bin when people want them and we can put proceeds towards a good cause."

Some film lovers gave more than the suggested donation, bringing the total up to £339.20.

Mr Monsell added: "We suggested a fiver donation for each one but people were really generous and gave £10, £15, £20.

"When you look online on Ebay where people selling official posters like these, they can fetch £40 or £50 each."

The cinema has a ready supply of new film posters, as well as re-released classics, so Mr Monsell is sure he can raise more in future.

He added: "We'll save more up for another six months then we'll do it again."

Victoria Vickers, shop manager at the Shelter charity shop in Topsfield Parade, Tottenham Lane, said: "I want to give a big shout out to the Art House. It's great what they have done for us."

She said donations will go towards providing services for homeless people and those facing eviction, including an online chat service.

She added: "The Art House were really generous. I hope it inspires others to fundraise for us."
