In the summer's most unlikely festival pairing, the Emmy-winning creator of hit series Succession will discuss the Seven Deadly Sins with the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury.
Jesse Armstrong, who co-created Peep Show, Fresh Meat and the award-laden HBO series will appear at The Idler Festival in Hampstead alongside The Right Reverend Rowan Williams.
The pair will sit down together on July 5 - just as the General Election results are sinking in - to discuss greed, envy, pride, lust, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.
Williams served as the Church of England's highest office for a decade from 2002-2012 which included blessing at The King and Queen's civil ceremony, and officiating at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The three day festival, in the grounds of National Trust property Fenton House, boasts a line-up of talks, workshops, comedy, music and philosophy.
Festival director Victoria Hull said: “We are delighted to have been able to bring together this wonderful pairing; surely one of the great festival match-ups of our times. This year’s festival will be the perfect post-election environment – a line-up crammed with treats and fascinating people in a setting designed to soothe. Our favourite weekend of the year is nearly here.”
Actor Dominic West, authors Zadie Smith, Nina Stibbe and Charlie Higson, comic Tim Key, poet Salena Godden, actor and podcaster Rosie Holt are also due to appear at the thought-provoking festival, which invites people to slow down, have fun, and live well.
Playwright Michael Frayn is in conversation with his daughter, documentary maker Rebecca Frayn, and comic and playwright Arthur Smith intends to reveal “the true story behind Fenton House - a tale of murder, mayhem and lasagne”.
The Idler Festival runs from July 5 to 7 taking over Fenton House's 300-year-old orchard, gardens, terraces and lawns. Tickets are available from www.idler.co.uk
