The cheapest musicals in London have been revealed – showing that catching a show need not break the bank.

New data from theatre ticket site SeatPlan provides a list of the most affordable musicals to see in London this summer.

Currently topping the list is a romantic comedy musical, Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York), with an average ticket price of just £17.90.

The musical dramatises a quirky love story that plays out when a British boy on his way to his father's second wedding in New York, meets the sister of the Bride.

Second on the ranking is Marie Curie The Musical, just slightly more expensive with an average ticket price of £20.

The story follows the life of Marie Curie, cleverly featuring songs about the periodic table and radium, a chemical element discovered by Curie.

Babies, a British musical following nine classmates as they attempt to keep a fake baby alive for a week for a school project, ranks third on the list and offers an average ticket price of £20.10.

Known for its lack of script and audience engagement, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical is the fourth most affordable musical in London with an average ticket price of £21.80.

Other musicals in the top ten most affordable list include Next to Normal, Guys and Dolls, Hadestown, Standing at the Sky’s Edge, Back to the Future: The Musical, and Sister Act, each costing between £23 and £26 on average.

Commenting on the study, Ben Jackson, CEO of SeatPlan, said: "Despite the cost-of-living crisis continuing to hit hard, families, couples, and individuals will still want to go out and enjoy a show.

"Some may be worried about the potential cost, but fortunately this study shows that there are still plenty of musicals out there with affordable ticket prices."

He added: "It’s interesting to see that the top ten most affordable musicals include a wide range of offerings.

"From shows fun for the whole family to more gritty musicals, there is something for everyone this summer."
