According to the comedian, this stage of his life was incredibly busy.

He takes the audience, behind the scenes of important moments in his personal life, including a new travel series, a wide range of art and artist documentaries, and watching his family grow amidst a period of emerging threats and dangers.

Among other tribulations, he navigates landmark events from the fall of the Twin Towers to the London bombings, and from economic instability to Tony Blair's time in office.

Within this period, Palin finds even more responsibility as he enters his 60s.

By the close of the diary, he steps into the role of President of the Royal Geographical Society, reaching the retirement age of 65, while still planning for new adventures.

Announcing the tour, Michael Palin said: "In There and Back - The Diary Tour 2024, I’ll bring to life the fourth collection of my diaries and the first to be released for 10 years.

"Lots of fun as I go through the Noughties, and some dark times too.

"I constantly surprise myself with the sheer amount I took on."
