A 31-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was hit by a car and left critically injured in Southall.

The incident happened in Merrick Road at the junction of Healum Avenue just before 12.15am on May 9.

Officers were called to the scene and found a woman in her 20s who was seriously injured.

The vehicle involved had reportedly left the scene and the woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

On Thursday, detectives issued an appeal for help confirming the woman’s identity and police now believe they know who the victim is, although work to inform next of kin continues.

A man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Friday remains in custody.

A local resident said she heard an argument between a man and a woman shortly before the incident occurred.

Ayan, 30, said: “I just heard an argument before it happened. I heard a woman shouting more than anything.

“And then a car skirted off.”

On Friday evening, a police car and a forensics van both remained parked on Healum Avenue.

Detective Superintendent Rebecca Reeves said: “Though an arrest has been made, we still need to hear from anyone who might have seen events leading up to and at the time of the collision.

“The woman was dressed in light-coloured bottoms, light-coloured top and wearing sandals.

“If you saw her around the area please contact us, especially if you have dash or doorbell camera footage – it could prove vital for us.”

Any witnesses or anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 82/09MAY.
