A highly rated rooftop bar and a Thai restaurant are among the establishments with the lowest food hygiene ratings in Camden.

In fact four places in the borough scored a 0/5 during inspections in March, meaning that ‘urgent improvement’ was necessary.

Inspectors from Camden Council’s environmental health team also found four other places where standards were not up to scratch – scoring a 2/5 or below.

These include:

Baan Thai

Found on Fortress Road, Kentish Town, the Thai restaurant scored a 0/5 following a visit on March 15.

All areas inspected – the hygienic food handling, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the management of food safety – were all given a ‘major improvement necessary’ rating.

Tetto’s Hampstead

The rooftop bar at Haverstock Hill also scored poorly, with a 0/5 after an inspection on March 25.

Both the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the management of food safety were given a ‘major improvement necessary’ rating.

Inspectors said improvement was ‘necessary’ for its hygienic food handling.

Temptation Coffee Bar

This Camden café at Murray Street was given a 1/5 on March 25, meaning ‘major improvement’ was necessary.

The hygienic food handling was ‘generally satisfactory’, the cleanliness and condition of facilities was given a ‘improvement necessary’ rating and the management of food safety was given ‘major improvement necessary’.

La Chingada

Eversholt Street’s Mexican restaurant also scored a 0/5, meaning ‘urgent improvement’ was necessary after a visit on March 26.

Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety required ‘major improvement’, while the cleanliness and condition of facilities was given an ‘improvement necessary’ rating.

 Winchester Project

The charity, which supports young people in Camden to “succeed”, is located at Winchester Road, Swiss Cottage.

On March 27, it was given a 1/5, meaning ‘major improvement’ was necessary.

Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were given ‘improvement necessary’.

But the management of food safety was given ‘major improvement necessary’.

Papi’s Coffee

Found on Camden Road, the café was given a 2/5, meaning improvement was ‘necessary’, on March 27.

Although the hygienic food handling was considered ‘good’ and the management of food safety was ‘generally satisfactory’, it was the cleanliness and condition of facilities which let the place down – as it was given an ‘improvement necessary’ rating.

Greenberry Café

This Primrose Hill café on Regent’s Park Road was given a 2/5, meaning improvement was ‘necessary’ on March 27.

Both the hygienic food handling and management of food safety were ‘generally satisfactory’, but it was the cleanliness and condition of facilities which was given an ‘improvement necessary’ rating.

Café Palestina

Located at Fortress Road, the café was given a 0/5 and told ‘urgent improvement’ was necessary on March 28.

While both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities were ‘generally satisfactory’, the management of food safety required ‘urgent improvement’.


The Ham&High is keeping a monthly record of food hygiene inspections within Camden.

The food hygiene scores range from zero - meaning 'urgent improvement' is needed - to five, which is deemed 'very good'.

To date, just a few ratings in April have been shared by Camden Council so far - although more are expected to come in at a later date.
