Hampstead and Highgate is to get its own Monopoly board - with the area's street names to replace icons like Park Lane - and even custom 'Chance' cards.
Board game lovers will finally be able to buy property in the same neighbourhood as Harry Styles, Ricky Gervais and Helena Bonham Carter - presumably at Monopoly money prices - when London-based Winning Moves UK launches the Monopoly: Hampstead and Highgate Edition board game.
The firm has already identified landmarks such as Hampstead Heath, Kenwood, Highgate Cemetery, Hampstead High Street, Parliament Hill and Highgate School to go on some of the squares, but wants Ham & High people to suggest the rest.
“We are expecting to be wonderfully spoilt with choices when putting this special edition board together,” says John Keen-Tomlinson, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK.
“Hampstead and Highgate are blessed with world famous landmarks and celebs. Everything will be up for grabs.”
Under licence from game company Hasbro, Winning Moves UK makes Monopoly editions for places all over the world, including world-famous locations such as Palm Beach, Dubai and The Hamptons.
In selecting Hampstead and Highgate for a board of its own, the Winning Moves UK team said a variety of factors were considered when producing the game, including ‘pride,’ ‘sense of community,’ ‘fame,’ ‘environment custodians,’ and ‘heritage.’
Mr Keen-Tomlinson added: “Hampstead and Highgate fit the bill perfectly for us.”
In all, more than 30 Hampstead and Highgate streets and spots will ultimately be showcased in the game, replacing the likes of Mayfair’ and Park Lane from the original Monopoly board.
In the game, the property sets will be themed in genres, from heritage to leisure, arts to business, entertainment to education, shopping to sport, and more.
There may even be a special blue set - there are typically two blue sets in the game - dedicated to properties sporting blue plaques. There are more than 75 in the area, many honouring artists or writers like John Constable and Robert Louis Stephenson.
But because Hampstead and Highgate do not have many main line train stations, the stations on the board will have a broader ‘travel’ theme and could include tube stations, a district rail line or even a cycle lane.
The Chance and Community Chest cards will be customised as well - one card could send players ‘Back 3 Spaces’ for dropping litter on the Heath.
Suggestions for landmarks as well as wording for the Chance and Community Chest cards can be made by email to hamandhigh@winningmoves.co.uk .
Nominations will be accepted for consideration from 10.30am today (March 15) until 11.59pm on March 28.
The MONOPOLY: Hampstead and Highgate Edition game is scheduled to hit shops this October.
