A consistently high-rated secondary school was the most oversubscribed in its borough last year.
For the academic year 2023/24, 232 pupils picked Camden School for Girls (CSfG) as their first preference, but just 119 places were offered.
The school was rated "good" its most recent Ofsted inspection on June 8 in 2022, a report published in September that year shows.
We looked at all ten secondary schools listed in government data for the borough, and ranked them based on popularity.
1. Camden School for Girls
CSfG had 232 students put it as their first preference, but it only offered 119 spots.
2. Parliament Hill
Parliament Hill school on Highgate Road had 180 total places on offer, but 206 pupils put it as their first choice. This meant 37 missed out.
3. Acland Burghley School
Acland Burghley School had 176 places up for grabs, but 210 prospective students put it as their first choice, meaning 34 missed out.
4. Regent High School
Regent High School had 176 total places going, and 155 pupils who listed it as their first preference.

5. William Ellis
William Ellis had 129 total places and 95 pupils who listed it as their first choice.
6. La Sainte Union
There were 69 total places on offer at La Sainte Union and 34 pupils who listed it as their first choice.
7. Maria Fidelis Catholic School
Maria Fidelis had 132 total places and 96 students who listed the school as their first choice.
8. Haverstock School
Haverstock School had 116 total places and 79 students who put it as their first choice.
9. UCL Academy
UCL Academy had 188 total places on offer and 145 pupils who listed it as their first choice.
10. Hampstead School
There were 186 total places available at Hampstead School, compared with 140 students who put it as their first choice.
The data used provides the number of applications and offers made for secondary and primary school entry in September 2023, and the proportion of students that received preferred offers.
It is collected from local authorities, such as Camden Council, and is based on national offer days of March 1 2023 (secondary) and April 17 that year (primary).
