North London's most delicious doners, succulent shishes and puffiest pittas have been recognised in the 12th British Kebab Awards.
The competition, which was established in 2013 to recognise excellence in the kebab industry, selects some of the best restaurants and takeaways out of the 200,000 in the UK.
Sponsored by Just Eat, the event took place at Park Plaza Westminster Hotel on Tuesday (February 27).
Here are north London's winners:
Best Takeaway in London
Archway Kebab
Found at Junction Road in Archway, the restaurant has been operating for over 40 years. It is not the first time the takeaway won the award – and it even had notable guests like former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn visit after claiming the title in 2019.
Chef of the Year
Mazlum Demir
The chef at Skewd Kitchen in Cockfosters Parade, Barnet, was named chef of the year.
The 40-year-old, who goes by Maz, has also previously won the prize.
Fine Dining Restaurant
Skewd Kitchen
It wasn’t only Skewd Kitchen’s chef that gained recognition this year, as the eatery itself was titled the ‘fine dining restaurant’ of the year.
Best Greek restaurant and/or takeaway
Fig Tree Grill
Located at The Broadway in Potters Bar, just outside London, the family-run restaurant says it is inspired by its family’s Cypriot heritage and it offers “a little bit of Cyprus” in Hertfordshire.
Best Kebab Restaurant in North and West London
Antalya Restaurant
This Holborn restaurant in Southampton Row is right in the heart of Russell Square, Bloomsbury, with authentic Turkish meals – and it was considered one of the best kebab places in both north and west London!
Supplier and Manufacturer Award
Vatan Catering
Based in Mill Mead Road in Tottenham Hale, the supplier says it is one of the UK’s largest doner kebab manufacturing companies after being established in 1989.
