Patients will be able to have their say after a US-owned healthcare firm that runs NHS GP surgeries across north London declared a change in its ownership.
AT Medics Ltd, which is responsible for eight GP surgeries in Camden, Islington and Haringey as well as elsewhere in London and England, has announced an upcoming change in its ownership or management.
NHS North Central London Integrated Care Board (ICB), the body overseeing healthcare provision in Camden, Islington and other neighbouring boroughs, confirmed it had received a proposal to change the control at the company.
A spokesperson for North Central London ICB said in a statement: “An application for a change of control is a lengthy process and no decision has been made at this stage. As well as undertaking comprehensive due diligence, we will communicate directly with patients throughout this process, including providing opportunities for people to learn more and share their views.”
AT Medics Ltd is owned by Operose Health, a subsidiary of the US-based healthcare giant Centene Corporation, which is worth an estimated £32 billion.
Legally, the provider has to first seek consent from the ICB for a change of control so that the care board can run checks on the proposed new owner.
An Operose Health spokesperson said: “There will be no change to how we deliver primary care. Patients will continue to be seen by the same practice teams and access care in the same way.”
They said patients should continue to use their practice “as normal".
Here are the surgeries in Camden, Islington and Haringey where AT Medics holds contracts:
- Mitchison Road Surgery, Islington
- Hanley Primary Care Centre, Islington
- Kings Cross Surgery, Camden
- Somers Town Medical Centre, Camden
- Brunswick Medical Centre, Camden
- Camden Health Improvement Practice, Camden
- GP Extended Access Hubs at Somers Town Medical Centre and Brondesbury Medical Centre, Camden
- St Ann’s Road Surgery, Haringey
The North Central London ICB will hold a webinar for patients and members of the public on Thursday, February 29 to explain the process.
