Forensic investigators are currently at the scene after a teenage boy was stabbed to death in a popular London park just 20 minutes before the start of 2024.
Crowds congregated at Primrose Hill hoping to count down the seconds to the next year and watch the London New Year's Eve firework displays from the viewpoint last night (December 31).
However a boy, 16, was stabbed at 11.40pm.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the boy was pronounced dead.
Today (January 1), police have cordoned off every entrance to the park, with forensic investigators at the scene.
A single forensic tent is in place near the top of the hill.
Officers are also patrolling the area, with a heavy police presence.
A male, whose age is not disclosed at this time, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken into police custody.
The Metropolitan Police say officers believe the area was “busy with people” at the time.
Footage shared online shows crowds of people gathered at the viewpoint at the top of the hill in anticipation of seeing the central London fireworks, despite there being no official displays taking place in the area.
This morning, litter is still scattered across the park as police comb the scene for evidence.
Days before the big night, Camden police stated the park would close at 1am. Signs are in place around the park notifying people that no one will be allowed in after that time.
