A popular pizza chain born in the North of England is bringing its celebrated Neapolitan-style pizzas to Shoreditch.
When it first opened in a Manchester suburb in 2015, Rudy's Pizza Napoletana would regularly see punters queueing around the block - and was even named among the best pizzas in the world.
Fast forward eight years and it has spread to multiple locations across the North and Midlands, although up to now the only London outposts were in Soho, or at Fair Game in Canary Wharf.
Now, their relaxed and friendly dining concept is coming to Shoreditch. Opening on December 4, the Shoreditch High Street restaurant is set over two floors, below the new Fora office development, with a light and airy ground-floor space, and a smaller basement dining room and courtyard.
Rudy's dough is made fresh daily by their pizzaioli using Caputo ‘00’ flour, double fermented over 24 hours, before being cooked in 60 seconds to create soft, light classic pizzas.
Neapolitan staples like marinara, margherita and calabrese are topped with San Marzano tomatoes grown at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, and traditional Fior di Latte mozzarella. There's also a rotating menu of specials from around the globe - pizzas currently on offer in Wardour Street include a triple pepperoni with chili honey, and an Esterina white pizza with smoked mozzarella, courgette, pancetta and fresh basil.
The drinks menu also honours their Neapolitan roots, ranging from Italian spritzes, to crisp Poretti, and classic stirred-cocktails.
Bookings go live on November 24 for the Shoreditch pizzeria and Rudy's also plans to open in Tottenham Court Road, taking over a light-filled cosy, corner plot from December 18.
