A new bagel café has opened in Primrose Hill – but it’s not the only spot you can try in north London.
It's Bagels in Regent’s Park Road opened to customers on Monday (September 11), joining a host of other bakeries in the area.
North London has some of the best bagel spots in town and here we list five that deserve a visit.
It's Bagel – Primrose Hill
Starting with the new bakery on the block – It's Bagel promises New York-style snacks.
The types of bagels at the shop are extensive – plain, poppy, sesame, garlic, onion, cinnamon and raisin, salted, pumpernickel to name a few.
They are boiled and then baked daily on site and priced at £1.50 each, or £18 for 13 bagels.
There is also a wide range of fillings to choose from, including a plain schmear (cream cheese), ‘The Works’ (cream cheese with lox, onion, capers, lemon and tomato) and BECSPK (bacon, egg, cheese, salt, pepper, Ketchup).
It's Bagel is open from 7am until 5pm, seven days a week. Address – 65 Regents Park Road.
Beigel Bake – Shoreditch
No matter the time, day or night, Beigel Bake can satisfy your bagel cravings.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Brick Lane, this bakery has been serving customers for almost 50 years.
A plain bagel can be bought for as little as 69p, with fillings including salmon cream cheese, tuna mayo sweetcorn and even Nutella.
The bakery also offers a range of desserts and can make orders to deliver. Address – 159 Brick Lane.
Papo’s Bagels - Dalston
Right next to The Shacklewell Arms, this bagel shop was set up by two New Yorkers with food industry backgrounds.
They claim that Papo’s was “born out of the singular desire to find proper bagels in London”.
As well as running the Dalston shop, the couple delivers bagels across the country three days a week.
All bagels are handmade fresh every morning and customers can also choose from three different schmears.
Papo’s Bagels is open from 9am until 2pm, Wednesday to Sunday. Address – 73-75 Shacklewell Lane.
The Happening Bagel Bakery – Finsbury Park
Located in bustling Seven Sisters Road, this bakery is a long-standing shop in the area.
One customer who visited in February said on TripAdvisor: “Their challah bread is absolutely wonderful.
“Soft, moist, tasty, with just the right amount of sweetness without going overboard. Gorgeous!”
The Happening Bagel Bakery is open from 5am until 12am, seven days a week. Address – 284A Seven Sisters Road.
Hendon Bagel Bakery – Hendon
This bagel store is a Kosher bakery that says it is dedicated to producing “artisanal, handmade breads using traditional baking techniques”.
Founded in 1983, the bagel shop is a short walk away for students and staff at Middlesex University.
The bakery closes for the Sabbath, but is open the other six days of the week.
In addition to bagels, the bakery offers challahs, filled sandwiches, pastries, and cakes.
Hendon Bagel Bakery is open from 7am until 9pm, Sunday to Thursday, and between 7am and 5pm on a Friday. Address – 55-57 Church Road.
