Hampstead has a plethora of restaurants, pubs and cafes, but not everyone knows where to go for a bite to eat in the area.
To help, we asked Ham and High readers where the best place for lunch in Hampstead is.
From Indian restaurants to classic pubs, readers had plenty of places to recommend for when lunchtime rolls around.
Here are some of the spots we are now dying to try.
The Spaniards Inn
This was the place more readers recommended as a lunchtime spot than anywhere else in Hampstead.
Located just a short walk from Kenwood House near Hampstead Heath, this Grade II-Listed pub has a history dating back to the 16th Century.
Offering a bottomless brunch, a Sunday lunch, and a selection of small plates – there is something for everyone at the pub.
The Spaniards Inn also has a large outdoor area, so would be a great place to visit on a summer day.
Burgh House Café
When we asked our readers where to go for lunch in Hampstead, this café in New End Square was a popular choice.
One Facebook user said: “Burgh House if you want to avoid crowds on High Street and support [a] local community project protecting heritage”.
The café is attached to the Grade I-listed house and Hampstead Museum, which was built in 1704, and offers brunch and sandwich options.
Picnic on the Heath
If you are looking for a cheaper option in and around Hampstead, then two of our readers suggest having a picnic on the Heath.
Stock up at a local supermarket or one of the area's highly-rated bakeries and find a grassy spot to enjoy one of London’s largest parks.
While this is a great idea for the summer, you might want to try one of the other suggestions during the rest of the year.
Other spots to try
Our readers also suggested a further eight places to grab a bite to eat in and around Hampstead.
These ranged from Indian restaurant Paradise in South End Road to Argentinian steak restaurant Gaucho in Heath Street.
The other recommended spots were:
- The Flask in Flask Walk
- The Horseshoe in Heath Street
- Oak & Poppy in Rosslyn Hill
- The Wells Tavern in Well Walk
- The Duke of Hamilton in New End
- Cinder in Belsize Lane
