A pub considered an ‘asset of community value’ has shut down permanently.
No reason was given for the closure, but The Lady Hamilton in Kentish Town confirmed on Wednesday (August 2) that it had officially shut "on a permanent basis”.
In April 2020, Kentish Town Neighbourhood Forum was successful in its bid to have the watering hole listed as an ‘asset of community value’ (ACV) with Camden Council.
This means that if the Kentish Town Road premises goes up for sale, the community has six months to develop a proposal and raise money to bid for it.
ACV owners are still able to sell the property at a price of their choice and can seek planning permission to change or redevelop it.
The Lady Hamilton’s ACV designation is not set to expire until April 2025.
What a loss.

On X, formerly Twitter, one user reacted with sadness to the pub's announcement, describing it as a “loss”.
The pub thanked punters for their support over the last few years.
The Lady Hamilton’s sister pubs – The Pineapple in Leverton Street and Tapping the Admiral in Castle Road – continue to operate as usual.
Both pubs have been contacted for more information about The Lady Hamilton’s closure and any future plans for the venue.
