A 149-year-old pub has delayed its reopening date after experiencing “technical difficulties”.
The North London Tavern in Kilburn High Road was set to reopen with a new look today (July 24) having shut for refurbishment at the end of June.
But the pub posted on its Instagram page this weekend to say that it would not now be opening until later this week after experiencing unspecified “technical difficulties”.
The pub was built in 1894 for railway workers and has remained a popular watering hole in north London ever since.
One of its windows was smashed on May 31 and a thousand pounds’ worth of spirits was stolen.
Landlord Dean Brent said it would cost £1,000 to replace the window and the same again to replace the stolen alcohol.
He told this paper that he feared the boarded up window would give a false impression of the pub and the “fantastic” people who go there.
He added: "It's Covid and the recession and the cost of living crisis, it's not fair that the pub should pay for damage and theft."
North London Tavern has thanked people for their understanding about the delayed reopening and promised to keep them updated about the situation on Instagram.
