A woman had to be transported to a major trauma centre on Tuesday (June 13) after falling from the upper floor of a Camden tower block.

Emergency services, including London's Air Ambulance, were scrambled to Taplow, a 23-storey block of flats on the Chalcots estate in Swiss Cottage.

The Met Police said it was called to “reports of a woman injured after falling from height onto scaffolding”.

She fell from a flat whose windows had recently been refurbished as part of a multi-million-pound scheme to remediate the estate, after severe fire safety problems were uncovered in 2017.

However, there is currently no suggestion that the windows, which open the same distance as the old ones on their safety setting, played any role in the fall.

“We are very distressed by the incident which took place at Taplow this week,” a council spokesperson said.

"All our thoughts are with the resident affected by the incident and we send our best wishes for their recovery.”

London Ambulance Service said it was called to Adelaide Road, NW3, at 1.59am on Tuesday.

It dispatched “a number of resources”, including two ambulance crews and a “hazardous area response team”, the first of which arrived by 2.05am.

“We treated a woman at the scene and took her to a major trauma centre,” a spokesperson said.

London Fire Brigade sent crews from West Hampstead, Paddington, Tottenham and Old Kent fire stations to assist.

Police said the woman’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

As Taplow is a live work site, Camden Council has invited the Health and Safety Executive to check its “independently reviewed and approved health and safety model”.

“We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response to this incident and the support they continue to provide,” the council said.

“Nothing is more important to us than the safety and wellbeing of our residents and communities.

“We are here to help anyone affected or concerned about this incident and our housing officers are on the estate, checking in on residents and providing support.”
