With the weather forecast to get hotter and hotter this weekend, many might want to plunge into cold water to cool off.

We are blessed in North London with a selection of outdoor pools and ponds to visit when the temperature gets intense.

The queues can get intense too so it's good to know where there are alternatives.

Parliament Hill Paddling Pool

Little ones will love this and with the playground next to it there are many hours of fun to be had.

Parliament Hill Lido

This is a great place for families or with friends. Visitors can have fun in the pool, the get out and get refeshments.

The paddling pool within the lido is currently out of order.

The pool is open 365 days a year but be warned, it is very popular.

Three hours during day-time costs £7.80 or £4.70 concessions and £2.40 for children.

Park Road Lido

Families can head over to the Park Road Lido in Hornsey.

At 50m by 23m, Park Road is one of the largest heated lidos in the capital, and has been a popular summer swimming spot since 1926.

Standard entry between 9am and 6pm costs £5.60 for adults, £3.85 for under 16s and under 3's go free.

Hampstead Ponds

Hampstead Heath is blessed with three swimming ponds - the Men's Pond, Kenwood Ladies Pond and the Mixed Pond.

Gone are the days of a free-for-all when unlimited users could enter the compounds and spend a sunny day swimming and sunbathing.

From noon until 4pm the ponds are now pre-book only. At all other times from 7am opening and 8.15pm closing, people can queue and hope to get in, with one-in-one-out entry during busy times. 

A single session costs £4.50 or concessions £2.70.

Finchley Lido Leisure Centre

The outdoor pool and garden opened on June 1 and is available for use during weekends until the summer holidays when the outdoor pool will be open daily.

Please note this facility is weather-dependent. The outside temperature must be 22C or above for the lido to open. 

Come down and enjoy our green space where you can sunbathe and enjoy some light refreshments of cold drinks, ice cream and snacks from our snack hut.

Hot in the city? Nestled in Covent Garden is an outdoor pool where you can cool off after all that pavement pounding under a blistering sun.

Non-members pay £7.50, children from 5 to 15 pay £2.40 and under fives swim free.
