Camden Council's chamber burst into applause as it was announced the authority's leader was pregnant.
Cllr Georgia Gould and her husband Alex Zatman are expecting their first child.
Mayor of Camden Cllr Nasim Ali made the announcement to applause at a full council meeting on Wednesday (April 26).
"All members are delighted Cllr Georgia Gould has announced she is expecting a baby," the mayor said.
"Georgia is like a sister to me, I've known her for over 20 years and I've seen how amazing she is.
"Georgia's a fantastic person, I'd like to congratulate you on your announcement. Alex is also a lovely person, they will be both be lovely parents."
Cllr Gould married civil servant Mr Zatman in September 2021 at the West London Synagogue.
Father-of-three Cllr Ali added: "At the moment the children count, the baby count is going down so Georgia's leading the way for other councillors.
"So other people in the room, you know, take the lead from Georgia. Congratulations again Georgia."
