Demolition work has begun on the site of a former care home in Maida Vale.
Westminster city councillor Geoff Barraclough confirmed that the work on the Carlton Dene and Peebles House site had begun earlier this week.
The disused former care home in Kilburn Park Road will be replaced by 65 self-contained ‘extra care’ homes and 22 new council flats.
Westminster City Council approved the plans in summer 2021, and the project is currently scheduled to be completed by early 2025.
We’re excited to announce our plans to build 65 extra care homes at #CarltonDene and new affordable homes at #PeeblesHouse have been approved by the planning committee.

The authority has said that local older people will be prioritised when applying for the new homes.
Those living in the ‘extra care’ homes will have their own private balconies, as well as access to a café, hairdressers and shared green space.
To minimise disruption on the site, the council says that, where possible, “contractors will be located away from nearby residential buildings”.

“City of Westminster will replace the old care home with a new 65 until ‘extra care’ facility for older residents and 22…new council flats.”
No construction vehicles will be allowed to enter the site before 8am or after 6pm Monday to Friday, unless granted permission by Westminster City Council.
