A West Hampstead neighbourhood restaurant is "thrilled" to have earned the Michelin seal of approval.
The world famous restaurant guide released its latest ratings for Great Britain and Ireland this week with Hām in West End Lane awarded a 'bib gourmand,' which recognises venues offering great food at reasonable prices.
Michelin also unveiled its prestigious stars, with new one star ratings given to the "cool and contemporary" Cycene in Chance Street, Shoreditch, the "elegant cuisine and handsome space" of St Bart's near Smithfield, and the Italian delights at Luca in St John Street, Farringdon.
Opened in 2018, the 45-seat restaurant is named after the old English word for home which is the root of the word Hampstead, and aims to be "a fantastic neighborhood restaurant" providing a "comfortable, casual, homely environment," and offering "simple but imaginative modern British food, cooked in a way that allows the quality of ingredients to shine."
Rose Tuckey from Hām said: "We are thrilled to be given a Michelin bib gourmand, it’s such an amazing accolade for our team - we’ve always tried to focus on producing great quality for a reasonable price and it’s fantastic to have received this recognition."
At Hām, meat is supplied by a farming co-operative in the Lake District, milk and butter comes from a Somerset farm, while sourdough is baked by Margot's in East Finchley.
The current menu boasts starters from around £11 including a fattoush herb salad with labneh; burrata with blood orange and honey; and braised lamb with sheep’s yogurt, and flatbread.
Mains are around £22 and include ricotta dumplings with cavolo nero and grilled kalette; pollack with spinach, roasted red pepper sauce, preserved lemon and almond, and pork collar with vadouvan and charred hispy cabbage, while desserts include a chamomile custard with poached rhubarb.
Hām is at 238, West End Lane, NW6. https://www.hamwesthampstead.com/
