A man has been arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting that left a seven-year-old girl fighting for her life in hospital.
Police arrested the man on suspicion of attempted murder after a car was stopped in Cricklewood Lane, Barnet, at 4pm yesterday (January 15). The man has been taken into custody.
Four women and two children were injured in the attack, which happened outside a Euston church.
Police were called at 1.39pm on Saturday (January 14) to reports of a shooting near St Aloysius Church in Phoenix Road.
At the time, a memorial service was taking place for a young woman and her mother.
Officers attended the scene along with medics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
A seven-year-old girl was taken to hospital, where she still remains, with injuries sustained in the shooting. Her condition is said to be serious but stable.
Three women – aged 21, 41, and 54 – were taken to a central London hospital where their injuries were assessed as non life-threatening. A 48-year-old woman has potentially life changing injuries.
A 12-year-old girl who sustained a leg injury is expected to make a full recovery.
Scotland Yard said shotgun pellets were fired from a black Toyota C-HR at around 1.30pm before it was driven off.
The shots sent mourners running and screaming, with many of them sheltering inside the church, witnesses said.
Father Jeremy Trood, who conducted the service, confirmed it was a Requiem Mass for Sara Sanchez, 20, and her mother, who both died in November.
Ms Sanchez suffered from leukaemia for three years before succumbing to the disease after her mother died suddenly from a rare blood clot on arrival at Heathrow from Colombia, MyLondon reported.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information about what took place should call 101, giving the reference 3357/14JAN.
Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
