Hampstead and Highgate are getting into the spirit of Christmas with festive lights and carols.
After Harry Potter star Rupert Grint switches on Highgate village's Christmas lights on Wednesday (November 23), it's the turn of Hampstead to light up the High Street on November 30.
Ward Councillor Stephen Stark said the choir from New End School, Hampstead will sing modern carols outside Barclays Bank as the Christmas tree and lights are illuminated at 2.45pm.
"It will be a nice, festive affair, there will be a drinks cart with coffee and mulled wine," he said.
"We hope the weather is kind and lots of people come and join us."
Burgh House in Hampstead hosts the St Gensius Choir on December 4 for a Christmas Carol singalong at 4pm featuring festive songs old and new.https://www.burghhouse.org.uk/whats-on/
Then there are carols in Pond Square on December 13 courtesy of Highgate School's symphonic band and concert choir. Festivities start at 6.30pm with mulled wine and mince pies available from The Highgate Society at 10A South Grove.
QR codes on posters willl allow the public to download words and singalong while a collection is made in aid of Highgate gardening charity The Harington Scheme, which works with young adults with learning difficulties.
Joanna Kennard of The Highgate Society said they expect hundreds to turn up: "Last year, perhaps because of Covid, everyone was very ready for carols, we ran out of mulled wine, and raised £1,000 for Jacksons Lane's Christmas dinner," she said.
"Highgate School brought a really good brass section. It's always a nice atmosphere with people gathering around the lampost in the square."
On December 9 at St Mary Brookfield in Tufnell Park, Voxcetera chamber choir performs a candlelit Christmas concert with Paul Ayers on piano and organ. Concert-goers can sing along to popular carols alongside sacred music by composers such as Britten, Górecki, James MacMillan and Eric Whitacre. The Stars in the Bright Sky. And Lauderdale House in Highgate is hosting its annual Santa's Grotto on December 10 and 11, when kids of all ages are invited to meet Father Christmas in his magical grotto.
Then on December 21 there are carols on the tea lawn at 5.30pm with professional singers, the house's resident pianist and mulled wine to bring Christmas cheer. Bring a lantern or torch to light up the night.
