A fly-tipped mattress, desk and other bits of old furniture were found dumped in a community clean-up.
Community group the Highgate Society collected what is believed to be their “largest haul” ever in their monthly litter picking event on November 5.
The group met up at Shepherds Hill in Highgate, outside the library, to pick up the rubbish and alert both Camden and Haringey councils.
Among items dumped illegally, an old foam mattress was found as well as a writing desk, remains of a bedside cabinet and crates.
Smaller items including hat boxes, roofing felt, building materials, bottles and cans as well as cigarette butts were also cleaned off the street.
Andrew Sulston, who leads the community projects group in Highgate Society, said that some of the larger items were repurposed – such as the wooden crate, which was donated to a local flower shop.
