Amy Winehouse turned up at Proud Camden last night to ignite her long-standing rivalry with outspoken songstress Lily Allen. Winehouse had only been expected to attend the event as a guest to support Proud Camden. However, during headliner Professor Green's new single 'Just Be Good To Green', Winehouse wowed Proud crowds by running on stage and grabbing a backing singer's microphone to sing Lily Allen's chorus; running off stage with a huge smile on her face as soon as the song was over. Green appeared to be extremely excited and humoured by the whole incident.
Winehouse spent the rest of the night with her fans, mingling and chatting with them in the venue. She also spent much of the night with Ron Brand (Russell Brand's dad), apparently jovially talking about a missed wedding invitation.
Onlookers were all very pleasantly surprised at how calm and focused she appeared to be. On this point Proud Camden owner Alex Proud stated:
'When she was writing and recording Back to Black, Amy was on the old famous Proud terrace every day and last night it was great to see that Amy of old back. However, I can honestly say I have never seen her that relaxed, happy and at ease with herself. It was great to see her so at ease with her fans and friends.'
Other news from the night, Brit Pop legend Jarvis Cocker was completely on form in his role of compere. Taking breaks from hysterically funny introductions and commentary, like Winehouse, Cocker also spent the night talking to his many fans. Cocker guided birthday attendees through acts such as Lauren Pritchard, Ayah Marar, Swimming and Mumford & Sons (DJ). He seemed particularly impressed with burlesque star Banbury Cross, who burst out of a large cake to perform a raunchy, nipple-tassle champagne finale right in front of him. Typical of his witty compere skills, Cocker told the audience:
'Well I don't know about you but I've never had a birthday cake like that!'
Extra highlights from the charity night included Mumford & Sons packing out dance floors with DJ sets, last minute performances from Hoodlums, the official album launch of Delays and celebrity guests Olly Murs, Ashley Madekwe, Rick Edwards and Richard Bacon.
