LEAH GOODMAN
LEAH GOODMAN I am sorry to write that the beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great friend to many Mrs Leah Goodman (aged 70) died on the 21st of March 2009 after a long battle with cancer . I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the lateness in this news being published. Leah was born at the most challenging of times in pre-war Europe, and hers was a most painful of early lives -deprived of a normal childhood, of her mother and then of her sister - experiences that inevitably had a profound impact on the rest of her life. Yet through this, and through the other challenges that life would throw at her, she was determined always to look for the positive, determined to live life with joyfulness. It is a sentiment expressed in the title of her very moving testimony - for love of life. Her commitment to the positive also found expression in the Holocaust Survivors Centre to which she was dedicated. She had a very special relationship with friends in the Centre, which was so important for her in processing the experience of her life, and allowed her to reconnect with her roots. This quality of spirit was complemented by a sheer beauty and a natural elegance. Her radiance and grace which stayed with her into later life made it hard to believe that she was really ill. The measure of someones life is not in what happened to them, where they have been, but in who they were and the values that they embodied in their lives. Leah represented important values - of creativity, of being positive even when the world does not deserve it, of not wallowing in self-pity, of being there for family, of embracing and relishing life, of committing to joy. Always a deeply spiritual person with a strong belief, her love of life was there for all to see. May her memory be for a blessing. In the case of Leah there is no doubt that it should be so for you. May she come to her final resting place in peace
