All traffic has been stopped on the M4 near Heathrow Airport as police investigate an “incident”.
The motorway was shut on the M4 eastbound within junction three at around 6am today (March 25).
National Highways (@HighwaysEAST) urged motorists on X (formally known as Twitter) to allow plenty of time travelling in the area.
The incident caused three miles of congestion on approach and 45-minute delays in the area.
All traffic restrictions have since been lifted and all delays have returned to normal.
We have contacted Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service for further information.
The full tweet from National Highways says: “M4 eastbound at J3 (Harrow Hounslow @HeathrowAirport ) Greater London.
“ROAD CLOSED Following a incident recently, road is closed within J3 for @metpoliceuk investigation work.
“Road expected to be closed until approx 9am Divert off and on. 30 min delay.”
In an update, National Highways said: “CLEARED M4 eastbound at J3 (Harrow Hounslow @HeathrowAirport ) Greater London.
“ALL LANES OPEN Following the earlier closure for police investigation work the road through J3 is now fully open.
“Delays remain but are beginning to ease and should clear soon.”
