Patients are set to protest over plans that threaten a community healthcare centre in Kentish Town.

North Central London Integrated Care Board (NCLICB) has mooted the Peckwater Centre as a "potential" new site for the Mary Rankin Dialysis Unit.

The renal care facility is currently based at St Pancras Hospital, but is being forced to move amid major redevelopment to provide new mental health facilities at the site.

The Kentish Town healthcare hub currently brings together health, mental health, social care and wheelchair users services under one roof - and there are fears these will be "scattered" under the plans.

Patients at The Caversham Group Practice, a GP practice neighbouring the centre, will now protest against the proposals in Peckwater Street tomorrow morning (March 19).

They have described the centre as “the jewel in the crown” of Camden’s integrated health and social care services, and their change.org petition against the closure has so far gathered more than 20,000 signatures.

Alison Edgington, programme director for the St Pancras transformation, told Camden Council at the start of this year that the aim is to “improve services” for local people.

She added that proposals to move the dialysis unit would not go ahead until an alternative location for the services currently at the Peckwater Centre was found.
