Witches, princesses, monsters, a scientist and a gloomy donkey arrived for lessons at a Hampstead school.
Heathside School pupils, from Nursery to Year 8, came dressed in creative costumes for World Book Day on March 7.
Inspired by authors including J K Rowling, Dr Seuss, and Julia Donaldson, the pupils celebrated their favourite stories.
Even staff dressed up and shared their most loved books with the children.
Each class also got the chance to read one of the books nominated for the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustrations Award.
A local author, Julie Carpenter, paid a visit to the school to share her latest book with Reception and Year 1.
On Friday, the older year groups got to join an online Q&A with renowned author and poet Joseph Coelho.
Headteacher Nadia Ward said: "There was a heightened buzz of creativity in school today as our halls echoed with the footsteps of Harry Potters, Cat in the Hats, and Gruffalos.
"Our classrooms became portals to adventure, our costumes the garb of heroes and heroines from worlds both real and imagined."
Heathside School is also taking part in the Read for Good Readathon until March 27, to encourage students to read for fun.
