A convenience store, sushi bar and a Persian restaurant have some of the worst food hygiene ratings in Hampstead within recent months.

Five establishments in Camden were warned by inspectors from the environmental health team in Camden Council that its standards were not up to scratch between late June and July.

Hampstead Food and Drinks

This includes Hampstead Food and Drinks, based in West End Lane, was given a 1/5 and ‘major improvement’ was necessary following a visit on June 28.

While its hygienic food handling was found to be ‘generally satisfactory’ and its cleanliness merited ‘necessary’ improvement, it was the management of food safety that raised alarms as ‘major improvement’ was necessary.

Hana

Hana, a Persian restaurant also in West End Lane, was given an even lower score of 0/5 and was told ‘urgent improvement’ was necessary following a visit on June 28.

Specifically, the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities required ‘major improvement’, while the management of food safety required ‘urgent improvement’.

Sushi Masa

Sushi Masa, based in Haverstock Hill, was given a 1/5 and was told ‘major improvement’ was necessary on June 30.

Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities required ‘improvement’, the management of food safety was the main concern with ‘major improvement’ necessary.

Acai Berry

Acai Berry, a “superfood bar” offering healthy food in Camden Market, was given a 0/5 as ‘urgent improvement’ was necessary on July 3.

Both the hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities required ‘major improvement’ while the management of food safety needed ‘urgent improvement’.

The Farrier

The Farrier, a Grade II-listed pub at The Stables Market in Chalk Farm Road, was told ‘major improvement’ was needed with a 1/5 rating on July 3.

The hygienic food handling was ‘generally satisfactory’, the cleanliness and condition of facilities needed ‘improvement’, but it was the management of food safety which required ‘major improvement’.

The Ham&High is keeping a monthly record of food hygiene inspections within Camden.

The food hygiene scores range from zero - meaning 'urgent improvement' is needed - to five, which is deemed 'very good'.
